Today, bacteria and viruses are stronger than ever. Current products are no longer effective in combating many dangerous microbes. In hospitals, patients and staff alike are at risk of cross-contamination due to dangerous pathogens that travel faster and easier than ever before.
Modern hospitals face increasing pressure to control costs, increase productivity, and provide superior care. While accomplishing this, some problems still fall through the cracks, resulting in Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI).
In a 2011 study, the CDC found that on any given day, about 1 in 25 hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection.
- In the study there were 722,000 HAIs in U.S acute care hospitals.
- 75,000 hospital patients with HAIs died during their hospitalizations.
- Annual costs of HAIs is estimated between $35.7 to $45 billion dollars
